Dave Humbert began his teaching career in 1967 with the Jay School Corporation serving as director of bands at Pennville, Redkey, and Portland High Schools. In 1975, he was a central figure in making the newly consolidated Jay County High School cohesive with the Jay County Marching Patriots. Over his 38 years of active employment in the Jay School Corporation,Dave led the Marching Patriots into every “Sweet 16” night show of the Indiana State Fair Band Contest securing twenty “Top 5” spots, including two championships in 1992 and 2001. He brought national attention to the band program with performances in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Detroit, Gatlinburg, Orlando, and Indianapolis, along with other cities.
Students under the leadership of Mr. David Humbert knew he expected them to always give 110% while making sure they had lifetime experiences in the band. Dave Humbert’s contributions and personal devotion to public education brings great credit to himself, our community, and the Jay School Corporation.
