Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson began his career as a teacher at West Jay Junior High School in the fall of 1984. Over his 32 years of active employment in the Jay School Corporation, Doug taught at Judge Haynes, Westlawn, Bloomfield and finally East Jay Middle School, retiring in the spring of 2017. During this time his positive attitude and his firm faith impacted those he worked with, as well as the students within his classroom. He also served in a coaching capacity for many years with the middle school cross country teams and the middle school track teams, and the encouragement and leadership that he exhibited outside of the classroom also left a mark on hundreds of students.

Throughout the years that he served as a teacher within our corporation, Doug exemplified how a teacher should conduct themselves - with dignity, integrity, honesty, and caring for each and every student who entered his classroom.  He showed patience and love for his students every single day, but he also always expected them to put forth their best effort. Doug Johnson’s  devotion to public education and care for his students, brings great credit to himself, our community, and the Jay School Corporation.
